This project has been in the queue for a year.
It really started with the fabric. It is near and dear to my heart, as it is a piece I received from my bestfriend. (She takes some amazing photographs that you can see here).
This fabric is lovely. As I do not read Japanese, it appears to be a printed cotton broadcloth. The patterning and metallic embellishments give the fabric a depth that I do not see in other simply woven cuts. Visually, it puts me in the mind of a brocade, but it is not fussy. It is a bit stiff, even after several washes.
The structure of the fabric made me think duster.
I have had Seamwork Quince in my stash since it’s release, but did not settle on a fabric until now. Because nothing in me wanted to print and tape Quince together, I had the copyshop print and ship it.
WORTH IT!
I reassessed the finished garment measurements and decided to trace, cut, and sew a straight size 10.

In making, I disregarded most of the instructions. I used french seams instead of a hong kong finish. (If you take this route, note that you will need to clip the corners before finishing your seams.) I made the waist length version. You will see no pockets, because I am still debating whether or not I want to add them. They are cut, and sitting on my table.
Also no belt. It was a narrow cut, and I had just enough to get the garment finished. Belts are optional and interchangeable in my book. So, a belt was not a necessity for me.
I love this. I love lounging in this. Running errands in it. Most of all, I love having a physical reminder of a dearly loved friend that I don’t get to see near enough.
